Fresh from a busy summer of festivals, including 5 sets at Glastonbury, London-based musician GECKO makes a rare appearance in sleepy steamy (engine-y) Grosmont.

Come along to the Old School Coffee Shop on

Expect lizard-y, lyrical wizardry about the important things in life: libraries, Eastenders and fruit juice.

Welcome to The Old School Coffee Shop.

We opened in April 2012 after a year long renovation of this picturesque sandstone Victorian building - the classroom of Grosmont’s former primary school - that overlooks the North York Moors Steam Railway line.

We offer high quality, freshly ground, expertly made cups of coffee, from espressos to lattes; along with tasty home-baked cakes and snacks. As well as the fairly-traded coffee and Lifeboat tea, we have a range of fruit and herbal teas, refreshing smoothies and luxury milk shakes which are made with locally sourced ice cream and sorbets.

We have a small range of bottled beers and lager and serve wine by the glass.

The comfort of a contemporary cafe is enhanced by echoes of the building’s past. Customers can relax and browse our collection of old (some Victorian..) and new books, or dip into today's paper while enjoying the refreshments.

There's free WiFi and, if you're walking up on to the moor we have a flask filling service.

Our outdoor area is the former school playground and it overlooks the steam railway line. There's even a 'canine corner' where dog owners can rest and enjoy their drink while fido munches on a complimentary dog biscuit.

All of this accompanied by carefully chosen tracks of music, appropriate to different times of day and seasons, that won’t get in the way of conversation.

We look forward to welcoming you.
